The Best RV YouTube Channels for Beginners (Our Favorites)
The best RV YouTube channel for beginners, in my book, is Keep Your Daydream, with Josh the RV Nerd right behind it for figuring out what you’re actually buying. Those two, plus seven more channels and one podcast, are how I spent roughly three years learning RV life before we bought anything at all. Josh is also the one who definitely pushed me toward our Brinkley.
Buying an RV is a big, expensive decision, and it was really important to me to learn first. So I watched. A lot. These folks are who I used for all my informed decisions, so I owe a lot to them. Plus, it was just super entertaining.
By the time we finally bought (the whole story of why is in Volume Two), I’d done my homework.
Here they are, grouped by what each one is good for. The order is mine and not remotely scientific. (And no, there are no affiliate links here.)
The best RV travel and lifestyle channels
Keep Your Daydream
Keep Your Daydream is Marc and Tricia, and it has always been my top favorite. Their whole pitch is that you don’t need the perfect plan or a pile of money to start, you just start with what you can actually do right now. They’ve put over 200,000 miles behind them, and a new episode comes out every Sunday evening. (They even have a video on towing mods for the Ford F-250, which happens to be the truck we ended up with.)
Less Junk, More Journey
Less Junk, More Journey is Nathan and Marissa and their family, living the RV life and taking you along for the ride. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed their channel. They even put together a guide on what they wish they’d known before they hit the road (exactly what you want when you’re still on the fence).
Changing Lanes
Changing Lanes is Chad and Tara, plus their dog Daisy, living full time in a fifth wheel toy hauler. They mix their travels with DIY projects on the rig. I watched plenty of them.
Today is Someday
Today is Someday is Phil and Stacy, who sold the house and walked away from their jobs to travel full time in an RV. This was a big one for me, and a great one. The name alone is a pretty good nudge if you’ve been saying “someday” for a while.
Grateful Glamper
Grateful Glamper is Ben and Charity, who travel with their kids and a Great Pyrenees named Evie. They pull a fifth wheel with a Ford F-350. Their motto is “Experiences Over Things,” and they do a lot of campground reviews. Honestly, I used them a lot.
The best channels for RV reviews before you buy
Josh the RV Nerd
Josh the RV Nerd has been in the RV business since 2009, starting at his family’s dealership, and he’s now part of the team at Bish’s RV. He walks through RVs of every shape and size and explains how they’re built, with a steady supply of dad jokes. For me he was critical. Dude’s a stud. He’s also the one who definitely pushed me toward the Brinkley, so if you like our trailer, Josh deserves some of the credit.
Matt’s RV Reviews
Matt’s RV Reviews does long, detailed tours of every kind of RV, from big motorhomes down to travel trailers, with a new review every other day. He was huge for me, and here’s the honest reason why. I used to weigh 330 pounds. When you’re a big guy shopping for an RV, the first question isn’t the floor plan or the tank sizes. It’s “will I actually fit in that bathroom?” Matt’s tours were how I found out, one tiny bathroom at a time. He was right up there with Josh for me from the very beginning, and I always enjoyed watching him skip from the front of the RV toward the door. (Great name, too.)
Where can you learn RV maintenance and repair on YouTube?
RV Tips & Travels
RV Tips & Travels is Ross, a registered RV technician, with his wife Tara behind the camera. He covers repairs and maintenance, for brand new RVers and old hands. Great, great channel.
Rigor RV Repair
Rigor RV Repair is Jacob, an RV repair technician who goes undercover at RV dealerships to review the rigs on the lot. His goal is to help owners stay out of the repair shop by shopping smarter and keeping up with maintenance. That’s a great one, especially before you sign anything. Jacob is the RV tech whose name I could never remember, and I like him a lot too.
I’ll be honest, all that watching didn’t make me ready for everything. Our first year still handed us a flat tire in the middle of nowhere in Texas, and that story (and what it cost) is in what a year on the road cost us.
Is there a good RV podcast?
Yes. The RV Miles Podcast is Jason and Abby Epperson, and they call it “The Weekly Show for RV Enthusiasts.” They also run the RV Miles YouTube channel, with weekly RV industry news. I really enjoyed that podcast.
The one RV tip I use all the time: GOAL
If you only take one thing from this list, take this. GOAL stands for Get Out And Look. Before you back up, you stop the truck and get out to look at what’s behind you.
I learned it from either Keep Your Daydream or Changing Lanes, and I genuinely can’t remember which. Keep Your Daydream does have a video on GOAL when backing, so they get the credit until Chad and Tara tell me otherwise. Either way, I use it all the time.
Do I still watch these channels?
Yep, all the time. I watch every one of them every week. I find them fascinating, and I really enjoy it. If you want to see where we’ve been since, it’s all on our travel map. And if you’re curious what we actually packed after all that research, our packing lists are up too.
We film our own travels now, on the Five Parks Life channel.
